Heather Rae Rodin

author

Heather Rae Rodin is an award winning free-lance writer and author. She enjoys sharing devotionals but has a passion for story and is a regular contributor to Chicken Soup for the Soul and other anthologies. She is also author of Acting Badly - A Sorcerer's Story of Redemption and Prince of Vodoo -- ‘Breaking the Chains’ -- the incredible, true story of Wouillio Zamor, dedicated to Satan at birth but chosen by God for life.

A teacher by profession, Heather switched her role years ago to become a stay at home mother to their six children. With the children grown there is now the abundant blessing of grandchildren adding to the boisterous Rodin family. Their home rests on a (not-so-quiet) acreage near Peterborough, Ontario

Heather and her husband, Gord, are also co-founders of Hope Grows Haiti, a mission in Grand Goave where the poorest of the poor struggle for survival. The charity is registered in both Canada and the United States. It has served for the past eleven years to feed, clothe, house and educate abandoned children and forgotten elderly. Throughout the year, Heather organizes and hosts various teams to visit the Mission.

The Word Guild winner in the Crossover-Long Feature category

"The most-difficult thing for a writer to do when handling deeply emotional material is to avoid the temptation of going maudlin. Rodin avoids this beautifully. She's written a moving piece in a way that doesn't artificially try to wring every last drop of emotion out of the reader. She simply told her story honestly and lets the tale do the work. Which it does. Rather than dumping six pounds of saccharine into a recipe when a tablespoon will do, she warmly recounts a friendship in a way that leaves the reader both moved and satisfied. This is easily the class of the category."
